Crickets on a Treadmill

They may have an unfair advantage because they have so many legs. But maybe that’s a disadvantage. How many legs does a cricket have? If they have four, would that make it four times harder for them? Or four times easier? How about the wear on the treadmill? These are questions that the researchers didn’t ask.

Crickets on treadmills have been used in the past to study the their ability to regenerate damaged auditory neurons. However this particular photo is from the crickets used by the Office of Research Services the University of Colorado in October, 2017. The researchers measured the creatures’ dopamine and serotonin levels in a study about coping with stress, but haven’t yet reached a conclusion
