Polar Bears Need Treadmills Too

Click below and you will never think of treadmills in quite the same way again.

A biologist at the U.S. Geological Survey wanted to study how polar bears walk. Apparently, polar bears walk on the soles of their feet, unlike most other mammals that propel themselves forward from the balls of their feet. So he scored a horse treadmill and modified it to prevent the bears from tearing it up. It took about nine months and lots of fish to train the beast to walk on the damned thing, but the results were wonderful. They are shown above at the Oregon Zoo.
